There's a new baby name trend emerging across the United State. As the Hispanic population increases across the U.S., white parents are increasingly giving their children Latino names.

There's a new baby name trend emerging across the United State. As the Hispanic population increases across the U.S., along with the cultural its influences, white parents are increasingly giving their children Latino names. Social media baby naming website, Belly Ballot, predicts a large emergence of Latino names based on their latest data. "Hispanic is definitely in," says Belly Ballot editor and baby name expert, Lucie Strachonova. "We have seen strong indications of white parents selecting Latino baby names in greater numbers, and the trend continues to grow. Fall 2013 through 2014 will certainly be a pivotal year."

Los nombres latinos estás definitivamente de moda.

Está surgiendo una nueva moda en los nombres de los bebes recién nacidos en Estados Unidos. Al mismo tiempo que el crecimiento de la población hispana aumenta en todo EE.UU., junto con su influencia cultural, los padres caucásicos están nombrando a sus hijos con nombres latinos. El sitio de internet, Belly Ballot, basado en sus datos más recientes predice un gran surgimiento de nombres latinos. “Lo hispano está definitivamente de moda”, menciona la editora de Belly Ballot y experta en nombres de recién nacidos, Lucie Strachonova. “Hemos visto una fuerte tendencia de que un gran número de padres caucásicos eligen nombres latinos para sus bebes, y la tendencia continúa creciendo. El otoño de 2013 y 2014 será seguramente un año crucial”.

Los hispanos representan el grupo minoritario más grande en los Estados Unidos. En California, a finales de este año, por primera vez en la historia los hispanos serán el grupo étnico más grande, de acuerdo a un reporte contenido en la propuesta de presupuesto 2013-14 del Gobernador Jerry Brown.

Estos cambios demográficos reflejan cambios en todas las posiciones políticas al mismo tiempo que los hispanos ganan más poder electoral.

Hispanics represent the largest minority group in the United States. In California, Hispanics for the first time will become the largest ethnic group by the end of this year, according to a report contained in Governor Jerry Brown’s 2013-14 budget proposals.

These demographic changes reflect changes in all political positions as Hispanics gain more electoral power. There were 5.9 million eligible Hispanic voters in California in 2012, being the largest block.

Crime: Good news and bad news in Oakland

Earlier this year, Oakland police analyzed robberies across the city and found that about 75 percent involved a smartphone. The increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets is a factor in the greater frequency of robberies. Stolen smartphones are easily cleared of all owner data and then sold on for $100 to $200.

Oakland has the highest rate of robberies per capita in the nation, and the numbers continue to grow. In fact, it has been on a big trend upward for the last two years.

According to the City of Oakland’s weekly crime report, as of Sept. 29, there had been 3,742 robberies in the city, a 25 percent increase from the same time last year. The total is about 1,200 higher than the total from the same time in 2011.
