Parents, school administrators, corporate sponsors, District Board of Trustees members, and local and state government representatives attended the event. Scholarships were awarded to four students.
“The certificates of recognition are awarded to students identified by their instructors as demonstrating academic achievement in the classroom and who, they feel, show potential for success in industry,” said automotive technology instructor Stephen Small.
“This ceremony recognizes academic excellence in career technology education and reflects the strong ties we have with our community,” added Small. Our partnerships support student success and achievement in the innovative field of technology and help us prepare students for careers of the future.”
The Automotive Service Councils of California is the largest independent automotive repair organization in California. Its members represent all areas of the automotive repair industry, including mechanical, auto body, suppliers and educators.
Several tool companies donated tools which were given to students, noted Chabot College Foundation Assistant Director Heidi B. Finberg. The tools are especially important, she explained, because graduates are expected to come “ready to work” in the industry and the tools help them prepare for today’s industry standards.
Individuals at the ceremony were awarded Certificates of Recognition from Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett and Assemblymember Mary Hayashi. Students who were recognized at the ceremony included:

Eden Area ROP: Anthony Feliciano, Jose Martinez, James Emmrich, Zachary Lopez, Ara Lopez, Chandy Phann, and Martin Lopez.
San Leandro High School: Joshua Mitchell, Carlos Rosales, Sergio Zurita, and David C. Bean.
Castro Valley High: Josiah King, Adam Busch, Chris Maldonado, and Joe Warren.
James Logan High School/Mission Valley ROP: Cristian Blancas, Joseph Maas, and Vince Lal.
Chabot College is a community college offering more than 100 degree and certificate programs throughout the year. The campus caters to a diverse, vital student population of 15,000 whose goals range from transfer to a four-year college to skills training and personal enrichment.
